In her paintings, Stephanie Brody-Lederman reveals the poetry inherent in ordinary life. She is obsessed by memory and the  potent emotions that remain long after an experience has occurred. Her images are disarmingly simple, almost child-like.  Don’t let this fool you.  Her subject matter is rife with psychological depth and intensity.

Her work pays homage to simple passages of life; standing in a forest of trees after a snowstorm, seeing the blooming of a cherry tree along the banks of the Seine, overhearing a conversation that is full of humor and irony. These paintings memorialize, with simplicity and honor, the complexity of the lives we are living. Brody-Lederman employs words in the same way as a poet or writer, with attention to cadence and multiple meaning.  In effect the works of Stephanie Brody-Lederman are distillations of the close-to-the-bone stories that we each tell ourselves (when we dare to listen.)
